Arizona Science Center Reopens Popular SkyCycle Attraction

PHOENIX, AZ – Arizona Science Center is thrilled to announce the reopening of The Evans Family SkyCycle, the popular suspension exhibit, after a three-year closure to guests, on Saturday, Dec. 9. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., Arizona Science Center Members are invited to enjoy early access to the Center for the official ribbon cutting to commemorate the reopening of the attraction.

The Evans Family SkyCycle, one of eight in the world, is a stationary bike that is suspended in the air nearly 15 feet and is held stable on a 90-foot cable, allowing passengers to experience properties of counterbalance and center of gravity. SkyCycle features a large weight suspended underneath the bike, teaching riders about the principles of counterbalance and center of gravity. The suspended counterweight acts as a resisting force, lowering the center of gravity and keeping the bike in an upright position.

“The ability to embark on the impossible and evoke wonder is at the heart of what we do at Arizona Science Center,” said Guy Labine, The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO of Arizona Science Center. “The Evans Family SkyCycle is the epitome of awe and curiosity and we’re thrilled to reopen this fan-favorite exhibit!”

Ardie and Steve Evans, Founders of The Evans Charitable Foundation said “We are so happy to be part of the reopening of this great guest experience.” They added, “ Arizona Science Center is an important asset to the State of Arizona and we are pleased to support the work they do and witness their impact”.

Arizona Science Center has strict safety restrictions for all those planning to ride the Evans Family SkyCycle. Passengers are recommended to be seven years or above with a height of 54” and above. Children under the age of 18 must have an adult chaperone present during the ride. The maximum weight for a rider is 225 lbs. and cyclists must physically fit into the SkyCycle harness.

The Evans Family SkyCycle is open daily to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pricing for the exhibit is $5.00 for members and $7.00 for non-members. General admission tickets are required.
