Fall into Science at Arizona Science Center

Robust schedule of activities to entertain kids and adults alike all October long

 

PHOENIX, AZ – September 30, 2022 – Arizona Science Center kicks off the fall season with a robust schedule of activities to entertain kids and adults alike all October long! Known for exhibits and activities that inspire creativity and wonder, this month the Science Center features opportunities for a range of experiences and celebrations. 

Here is a complete list of activities guests can participate in this October: 

Astronomy Weekend - October 1-2: starting the month off with Astronomy weekend, where guests can journey through the cosmos during and discover the great beyond with live demonstrations and hands-on activities—all weekend long. 

Diversity in STEM: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage | Diversidad en STEM: Una celebración de la herencia hispana - Saturday, October 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Guests can celebrate discover botany, chemistry and engineering with an engaging half-day #GirlsInSTEM event. In this bilingual environment, participants will learn about Hispanic #GirlsInSTEM who have etched their legacy in their respective fields. 

Spooky Science - October 3-31: celebrating Halloween for four frighteningly fun weeks! From ghosts and monsters to pumpkins and aliens, Guests will discover the science of all things spooky. Prepare to be enchanted with daring demonstrations, four levels of thrilling themes and mysterious activities!

Good Night Oppy Movie Premiere - October 22:  Arizona Science Center presents Good Night Oppy in partnership with Prime Video and Club for the Future. NASA’s Opportunity Exploration Rover was only meant to explore Mars’ surface for 90 days. But Opportunity had other plans, and ended up lasting for nearly 15 years! In this Amazon film, discover the remarkable life of “Oppy” and how she led to some of our greatest discoveries on the Red Planet. Arizona Science Center Guests, Members and President’s Club get an exclusive first look at this brand new film!

Science With a Twist: This 21 and older after-hours experience provides time to explore, play and enjoy entertainment designed specifically for grownups. Sip cocktails, watch live demonstrations, take part in hands-on activities and explore all four levels of the Science Center. Groove to a live DJ or sit back and rock out in the Dorrance Planetarium while being dazzled by laser light shows set to the music!

CAMP INNOVATION Fall Break: October 10-14 from  9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m: Fall CAMP INNOVATION is sure to be quaking with fun! During Wacky Weather, campers will immerse themselves in the science of some of Earth’s most powerful expressions: tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and landslides. For five fun-filled days, these weather bugs will complete hands-on activities that build confidence, persistence, and creative problem-solving skills—all related to weather. 

CREATE AT ARIZONA SCIENCE CENTER® EVENTS 

  • Wednesday Workshop (Ages 18+) - October 12 & 26 | 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Explore multiple areas of STEAM at this adults-only workshop! Using vector graphic design and laser cutting, assemble a one-of-a-kind table lantern. Create a mood unique to you using color and paper.
  • Weekend Workshop (Ages 8+) - October 8 & 22 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Explore vector graphic design and laser cutting by creating a unique table lantern. Tap into your creative side by developing a mood through color and paper. It’s the perfect weekend outing for the whole family!

Science Teacher Resident (STaR) Program Fall Module: Life Science - October 7-8 and 14-15 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Participants will engage in four days of hands-on, research-based learning activities that challenge common student misconceptions about Life Science. Explore how energy flows through an ecosystem, how organisms adapt to their ever changing environments, how animals and plants depend on each other for survival, and so much more!

Preschool Science Series (Sessions 3 and 4) - Saturdays, October 8 and 22 | 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Experience the difference between tinkering and making, and how both are needed for children to effectively engage in engineering challenges.

Going Places: Through engaging interactives, explore how different modes of transportation have shaped society. Discover how gravity, wind, currents, waves, friction, and changing landscapes are overcome by the ingenious designs of travel technology.

Life on the Edge: In Life on the Edge, visitors will discover that life is hidden in plain sight by exploring a colorful microbial colony, learning about the importance of our missions to Mars, investigating rover tests in the Atacama Desert and using spectroscopy to detect what light reveals in faraway places.
