Scientific And Institutional Review & Form - All students complete and obtain any necessary approvals BEFORE experimentation begins. 

Research Plan - All students complete BEFORE experimentation begins. 

Project Continuation Form - Only complete this form if you're continuing a project from a previous year.

Senior Division projects use the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) forms. The easiest way to determine which forms you need is by using the ISEF Rules Wizard.

Before You Begin Your Project

Complete your Research Plan and any required pre-approvals BEFORE you begin experimenting or collecting data. Starting research before receiving required approval may make your project ineligible for AzSEF.

 

Who’s Who in Your Paperwork?

  • Adult Sponsor: Usually a teacher or adult overseeing your project.
  • Direct Supervisor: The adult who supervises you while you experiment. This might be your teacher, parent/guardian, or another adult, depending on where your experimentation takes place.
  • Qualified Scientist (QS): A scientist or expert with appropriate training who oversees certain types of research.
  • IRB: A committee that reviews and approves research involving people.
  • SRC: A committee that reviews certain projects for safety and rule compliance.

Important Dates:

  • February 1, 2027: Registration Opens
  • March 6, 2027: Last day for a qualifying school, homeschool, district or regional fair to be completed in order for students to register for AzSEF
  • March 10, 2027: Registration closes at 11:59 PM
  • March 25, 2027: AzSEF Event - Elementary and Junior Divisions, Senior Division project check in
  • March 26, 2027: AzSEF Event - Senior Division
  • March 27, 2027: Awards Ceremony at Arizona Science Center
