The Science of Guinness World Records Arrives at Arizona Science Center
“Break a record” and be amazed by the fastest, longest, highest, and strongest!
PHOENIX, AZ – May 19, 2023 – The Science of Guinness World Records officially opened today at Arizona Science Center with a record-breaking attempt - the largest pair of scissors to cut a ribbon at an opening event. From the world’s smallest stop-motion film to the world’s fastest human reflexes, guests can be inspired by the science behind these mesmerizing accomplishments. The exhibition will run through January 1, 2024.
The Science of Guinness World Records’ 6,000 sq.ft of interactive exhibits will leave guests astonished as they discover exactly what goes into accomplishing the seemingly impossible. Guests will learn about amazing record-breakers, and learn more about how bodies react, focus, and endure. Guests will use the science behind their skills to help them become better record-breakers and will have the ability to challenge themselves and others to officially break a world record.
“Our record holders are simply the most incredible people you’re ever going to meet,” says John Corcoran, Director, Traveling Shows & Guinness World Records Attraction Development. “They defy belief and they often seem to defy physics and the nature of spacetime itself. But of course, what they’re really defying is our limited sense of what a person can do with enough time, enough practice, and enough dedication.”
How does one develop the ability to do 36 consecutive pull-ups, using only their pinky fingers? What does it take for someone to create the world’s smallest stop motion film? What possesses someone to learn how to solve not one but three Rubik’s Cubes simultaneously?
“Understanding what it takes to break records through the lens of science will be inspiring for scientists and enthusiasts alike,” said Guy Labine, The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO of Arizona Science Center. “We’re excited for guests to learn about some of the awe-inspiring accomplishments of those featured in the exhibition – and question their own limits as well.”
Beyond the challenges, guests will be drawn in by inspirational stories, as well as intriguing artifacts that will be showcased throughout the exhibition. Engaging and interactive record attempts inspire guests and ignite their desire to also record.
“Arizona is home to so many unique records, we’re excited to highlight these achievements during the exhibition,” said Anita Theisen, Arizona Science Center Board of Trustees, Chair “We hope this exhibition will inspire Arizona residents of all ages to throw out their limiting beliefs and push themselves to achieve what the world tells them is impossible.”

The Science of Guinness World Records is open daily to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a limited engagement through January 1, 2024. Pricing for the exhibition is $6.95 for members and $8.95 for non-members. General admission tickets required. Children under three are always free.
