Arizona Science Center Celebrates Learning Through Play on World Play Day
PHOENIX – Arizona Science Center, which has been a member of The LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network since 2021, is bringing light to this incredible partnership in honor of World Play Day (June 11). World Play Day is how the LEGO Group celebrates the International Day of Play – A UN-ratified day on June 11 each year dedicated to the power of play!
The LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network’s mission is to connect kids with leading children’s and science museums and foster an environment for learning through play. For World Play Day, children’s museums and science centers across the network will be inviting children to imagine and create more playful cities as part of a new Build the Change challenge. This challenge aims to inspire children to build a brighter future through play and amplify their voices across the globe.
On June 11 at Arizona Science Center, children will tackle the new Playful Cities Challenge (created in partnership with design and engineering experts Arup) to build the playful cities they would like to see out of LEGO® bricks and any materials available.
“With our wonderful collaboration with the LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network, we’ve been able to inspire more opportunities for play within Arizona Science Center, and we are looking forward to celebrating that partnership for World Play Day,” said Alyson Smith, Senior Vice President, Engagement at Arizona Science Center. “This event will allow kids to creatively envision the future and bring to life a whole new world.”
Through its participation in the LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network, Arizona Science Center is working to impact its community by providing playful learning experiences through programming onsite and with partner organizations. Now in its fourth year in the program, Arizona Science Center is using these tools to strengthen guest experiences, deepen its reach in the community, and bring more joy and play to its partners and their work.
“We believe that all children should benefit from the power of play,” said Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO® Group. “For more than 90 years we have championed children's right to play, as we know that it can change lives. It strengthens family bonds and helps children develop essential skills and reach their full potential.”
The network is funded by the LEGO Foundation and hosted by the Association of Science and Technology Centers.
