Below is a list of live demonstrations available for your viewing in our galleries, providing a fun and exciting interactive experience between visitors and Science Center staff. All demonstrations are 15-20 minutes long.

The daily schedule can be found posted in our lobby. For exact times call after 10 a.m. on the day of your visit (602-716-2000). The topics change, but the learning and excitement is always the same!

Arizona Gems - All ages

Did you know that Arizona plays host to three beautiful birthstones? Come check out Amethyst, Peridot and Turquoise and their gorgeous colors.


Balancing Clowns - K-5th grade

Make an acrobatic clown that balances on the tip of your fingers.

Balancing Nails - 3rd grade through adults

How many nails can you balance on a single peg? Learn how to seemingly defy gravity in this activity.

B.L.T. - All ages

Build It, Learn It, Take It Home!

Got junk? Don't throw it out! Learn how to recycle your cardboard boxes, drink bottles, and CDs into cool scientific gadgets.

Blood Lab 3rd grade through adults
Learn about your blood, including where it's made and what's in it, as well as the different blood types and the need for donation.

Bloody Handprints - All ages

Come find out why blood seems to magically reach the surface of your hand as you finger paint without the paint!

Chromatography - All ages

Become a color scientist and use a process called chromatography to figure out what colors are used to make black ink.

Discover DNA3rd grade through adult
Learn about the genes and touch real DNA extracted from strawberries. At the end of the demonstration, you can solve a mystery using the information you've learned.

Galactic Voyage - All ages

How do scientists know what gases a star is made up of? Do we have to travel out into space to find out? Or can we find the answer from planet Earth? This demonstration reveals the answers.

Great Balls of Fire - All ages

Learn about the chemical reaction leading to combustion and discover the fire triangle through various experiments.

Illusions! - All ages
Can you believe your eyes? Not sure of the answer? This demonstration introduces the audience to some common optical illusions and explains how they happen.

Iron Wire - 3rd grade through adult

Learn about incandescence, thermal expansion, Curie temperature and phase change.

Come tie one on and be "knotty". You can choose a square, or a bowline, all the ways a rope can be tied.

Questions, Answered..

What are the hours at the Center?

The Center is open seven days a week from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The Center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Administrative Offices are open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

How do I get to the Center?

Arizona Science Center is located on the northwest corner of Washington and 7th Streets in Heritage and Science Park. The street address is 600 E Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

By Car:

  • From the East Valley- Take I-10 West to the 7th Street Exit. Turn left to Washington Street.
  • From the West Valley- Take I-10 East to the 7th Street Exit. Turn right to Washington Street.

By Valley Metro Light Rail:

  • From the East Valley, take Metro Light Rail to the Washington/3rd Street stop. Walk East 1.5 blocks.
  • From the West Valley, take Metro Light Rail to the Jefferson/3rd Street stop. Walk East to 5th Street and continue North up Washington Street.

Where should I park?

Parking is discounted with validation at the Heritage and Science Park garage located on the southeast corner of Monroe and 5th streets. Please bring your parking ticket to the Information Zone for validation. Parking for high profile vehicles is provided in the Civic Plaza East garage located on the southwest corner of 7th street and Washington street. Validation is not always available at this location.

Can tickets be purchased in advance?

In general, advance sale tickets are not required. Click here, to purchase tickets for general admission and traveling exhibitions (online order fee may apply).

Is there a place to eat at the Science Center?

As of Jan. 17, 2010 Fabulous Food is the new cafe service provider at Arizona Science Center. CLICK HERE for their menu.

Bottled water only is allowed in the Center.

Does the Science Center have Strollers?

Sorry, Arizona Science Center does not offer strollers.

Does the Science Center offer Wheelchairs?

Wheelchairs are available on a first come, first served basis. Check in at the Information Zone for wheelchair information.

Are there lockers at the Science Center?

The Center does not offer lockers or storage areas.

What is the Pet Policy at the Science Center?

Pets other than service animals are not allowed in the Center.

What is the Weapons Policy at Arizona Science Center?

It is prohibited for any person, other than law enforcement officers, to posses a weapon, whether designed for offensive or defensive purposes, on Arizona Science Center premises. The only exceptions are tools, to include pocketknives with 4” or less of blade.

can i leave the center and come back the same day? 

Visitors are allowed to leave and re-enter the Science Center on the same day of their visit as long as they have kept their wristbands on. Special exhibitions are an exception to this rule, as some allow only one visit through (please check with Guest Services upon your arrival for more special exhibition rules).
