Bring an Arizona Science Center program to your location.
GET INSPIRED! Arizona Science Centers' Science on Wheels can visit your school or venue! Through a variety of exciting and innovative programs, Science on Wheels sparks excitement in your students with programs ranging from large scale school assemblies and family festivals to intimate classroom experiences. From liquid nitrogen, to biofuels, to our medical mystery festival, we present inquiry-based activities led by trained professionals. All of our programs are aligned to both state standards and the Common Core, and designed to educate, inspire and excite your students about science and technology. Have pre-school aged students?Science on Wheels is excited to announce the addition of newly designed pre-school outreach programs!
Please remember, our Science on Wheels instructors are guests in your classroom. Class teacher/instructor must remain in class for the duration of the program for liability purposes.

NEW TOpic! stranded! What to Eat?
Grades 6-8, 45 minute workshop 30 students maximum
Imagine that you are a United States Military helicopter pilot. There has been severe hurricane flooding on the east coast and many buildings and homes have been destroyed. Hundreds of people are without electricity and do not have a way to buy and prepare meals. It is your job to air transport food to this area. What will you feed them? Steak? Spinach? Choclate pudding? In order to survive, our bodies need specific chemicals - chemicals which give us energy to think, move, grow and live. In this program, students explore the science of food as a supplier of energy. Hands-on chemistry experiments teach students about human biochemistry and what essential macromolecules our bodies require to function. Requires a room with a sink.
Grades 6-8, 45 minute workshop 30 students maximum
Students conduct exciting hands-on science investigations to explore human biochemistry and technology, and discover how essential the organization and interpretation of data is to modern medicine!
Grades 2-6, 60-minute demonstration & workshop 30 students maximum
Students encounter fundamental chemical principles as they investigate the mysterious changes that occur when various solids, liquids, and gases are combined. Students work in teams. Requires a room with a sink.
Grades K-2, 60 minute workshop 30 students maximum
Participants work in teams with building materials to create structures that introduce them to architectural and engineering principles. Requires a gym or similar-sized indoor location.
Grades 2-8, 90 minute workshop 30 students maximum
Using plastic bottles, water, and compressed air, students learn about aerodynamics as they design, test, modify, and launch rockets to altitudes of 100 feet and higher. Requires an indoor location and a 50 ft. x 100 ft. outdoor location.
Grades 3-6, 60 minute workshop 30 students maximum
Students will discover the differences between rocks and minerals, learn the significance of minerals in their lives, and identify and test a variety of Arizona minerals.
Grades 4-6, 60 minute workshop 30 students maximum
What can we do to solve the problem of too much CO2 in the atmosphere? Which fuel do you think will be the best choice in the future? This outreach is designed to be presented as an inquiry-based lesson introducing the concepts connected with creating biofuels and the need to change to alternative energy. Requires 5 adult volunteers, 6 tables, and access to a sink.
Participants discover the basic principles of electricity through the use of energy balls, the Van deGraaf generator, and hands-on challenges with insulators and conductors, and circuit boards.
Grades K-3, 45 minute demonstration 90 students maximum
Students are entertained as they learn some “sound” science principles. Various musical instruments and household objects will be used to demonstrate sound waves, frequency, and pitch.
Grades 2-8, 45 minute demonstration 90 students maximum
Take a cool break from the Arizona heat while learning through various experiments the amazing things that happen to solids, liquids, and gasses when they are introduced to temperatures approaching -320 F.
Grades K-8, 45-60 minute presentation 30 students maximum
Invite the heavens into your classroom! Identify constellations, hear stories about the sky, and learn about the planets in our solar system. This presentation is done in an inflated planetarium dome. Requires two electrical outlets, at least 25 ft. by 25 ft. of indoor space, and a 12 ft. high ceiling free from low lying fixtures. Requires 2 teachers/adult helpers.
Grades 1-5, 90 minute workshop 90 participants maximum
Become a doctor for the day! Students will meet their patients, collect clues, explore the human body, and use medical equipment at ten different stations - food, eyesight, bones, breath flow, skin, lice, temperature, teeth, heart rate, and urine. The doctors will then make diagnosis and solve the medical mystery. Requires at least 10 volunteers, 12 tables, and a gymnasium/cafeteria-sized location.
Invite Arizona Science Center to your science night! Intended to be a supplement to a school's already existing science night. Families will have a blast as they engage in exciting hands-on activities and exhibits.
