Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

SUMMARY: 

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate donors and sponsors and foundation donors.  S/he will also assist with developing department goals, strategies, donor recognition and communications.

This position is full time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manage all aspects of corporate and foundation fundraising, including project support, planning, research, solicitation, donor stewardship, budget tracking, special events and cultivation opportunities, oversee the Corporate and Foundation Stewardship Coordinator in the fulfillment of donor benefits and other stewardship activities.

Manage corporate and foundation prospect identification by reviewing preliminary prospect research and developing strategies for pursuing highly rated prospects.  S/he will work with the President & CEO, senior staff and trustees to identify, develop appropriate relationships with, and solicit corporate and foundation donors on behalf of the Center.

Review corporate sponsor/foundation giving policies and practices and conduct initial inquiries to determine corporate and foundation prospects' interest.  S/he will develop and manage the facilitation of cultivation and stewardship activities for corporate and foundation prospects and donors. 

For all corporate and foundation prospects and donors, prepare written sponsorship/grant proposals and request letters and communicate with departments about funding news.  Working with the Corporate and Foundation Stewardship Coordinator, s/he will ensure that corporate and foundation donor-related files and a corporate and foundation solicitation schedule are maintained. 

Oversee the Corporate and Foundation Stewardship Coordinator and other staff as needed to fulfill cultivation and stewardship activities for the Center’s corporate/foundation donors and prospects.

Oversee the Corporate and Foundation Stewardship Coordinator in the management of donor recognition opportunities to ensure that appropriate donor recognition is created, updated and maintained in collaboration with  other department staff, Center staff, donors and Trustees.

Collaborate with other departments to determine funding needs and to develop substance for proposals to corporations and foundations.

Collaborate with appropriate staff on developing and facilitating assessment mechanisms for corporate and foundation donors.  Working with the Corporate and Foundation Stewardship Coordinator, s/he will manage reporting relationships by coordinating with appropriate staff to create status, final and sponsor visibility reports about corporate and foundation donors.

Wriite and update descriptions of Center programs for corporate/foundation fundraising and publicity purposes.  S/he will be knowledgeable about the Arizona Science Center Style Guide and will assist with proofreading fundraising and departmental communications as needed.  S/he will maintain familiarity with the Center, its staff and various programs in order to communicate knowledgeably and effectively.

Assist the Vice President of External Affairs and the Director of Individual Giving in creating department goals, strategies and measurement mechanisms.

Occasional nights, evenings and weekends required.  Occasional travel a possibility.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or a minimum of two years related fundraising experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytic, written, computer and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Stellar written and communication skills a must, as this position must compose narratives quickly and accurately and make solicitation presentations to donors.
  • Creative and energetic.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter capable of juggling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment a must.
  • Ability to multi-task, effectively manage concurrent process/projects and be able to focus on the small but important details in all projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a sense of humor.
  • Outstanding communications skills a must, as this position interacts frequently with donors, volunteers and staff.

Instructor – Temporary Position – Gadsen Area
21st Century Community Learning Centers

SUMMARY: 

This is a temporary, part-time position based in the Gadsden area: 8 hours per week (except during trainings and camp) from approximately Sept. 13, 2010 – Dec. 17, 2010 and Jan. 10, 2011– June 30, 2011.

Arizona Science Center delivers after school and summer camp programs for schools, with funding from the Arizona Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center program.  We will be recruiting and training instructors to deliver informal experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) during school year 2010/2011 to 20 school district sites statewide for children in grades 4-8, coordinating closely with the districts and the ADE. 

This position reports to the Project Manager and begins approximately on September 13, 2010.   The instructor will work approximately 124 hours from September 2010 to December 2010, and approximately 234 hours from January to June, 2010 at school sites in the Gadsden area. The number of hours is dependent on the number of schools assigned to the instructor.

Instructors will participate in extensive training at Arizona Science Center in September 2010, January 2011 and May 2011 to learn the content, instructional philosophy and expectations of the after school and camp programs. 

At the school sites instructors will prepare, set up and clean up activities, and implement the programming; making sure the activities run smoothly, proper records are kept, and children are engaged. Instructors will be in close contact with the Project Coordinator regarding attendance and any needs and issues that arise.  They will work with the school personnel, including teachers who will be assigned by the districts to assist in the programs and with the 21st Century Learning Community Site Coordinators. Instructors will also assist the project evaluation team to distribute and collect data from children, parents, and others.

The program is not an academic school program but rather an informal, motivating and fun experience for the children. Instructors must have the ability to get the children engaged and enthused in various hands-on explorations, support their curiosity and investigations, and have fun with them.  Teachers from the district will assist in the sessions.

• Keep attendance records for the sites.
• Assist with STEM program evaluation process by distributing and collecting forms at sites.
• Meet with site personnel and with ASC staff on visits and by phone to insure a smoothly running program.

Fall 2010
• Attend a week-long training at Arizona Science Center in September.
• Deliver STEM club activities for a 10-week, once-a-week after school STEM club program for children at 4th-8th grade levels at 1-3 assigned sites.
• Facilitate a STEM Family night at each assigned site.

Spring 2011
• Attend two week-long trainings at Arizona Science Center: one in January and one in May.
• Deliver STEM activities for a 10-week once-a-week after school STEM club program for children at 4th-8th grade levels at 1-3 assigned sites.
• During 10-week afterschool program, work with district teachers in implementing extension activities and materials kit during school day or afterschool at 1-3 assigned sites.
• Deliver a week-long summer camp experience in June for children at 4th-8th grade levels at 1-3 assigned sites including field trip to Arizona Science Centers.
• Facilitate a STEM Family night at each assigned site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of K-8 school systems.
• Experience with family programming.
• Experience with student-directed, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches.

COMPENSATION:

• Pay rate: $18 per hour

Ability to prepare written summaries of records. Ability to tally and track qualitative and quantitative information.  Ability to contribute to project blog.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
