Gallery interpreter - part time
SUMMARY:
Gallery Interpreters represent the "public face of the Science Center." Gallery Interpreters work in the exhibition galleries greeting visitors and engaging them in educational activities, conversations, and programs. They are required to be receptive, outgoing and engaged with the public while they are in uniform in the exhibition galleries. Gallery Interpreters assist visitors as they use the exhibits, encourage visitors to experiment and explore, and provide answers to questions and explanations through interactive demonstrations. Gallery Interpreters will work in one of the center's galleries, present tabletop activities, and perform scheduled demonstrations or workshops. They will also have time during their shifts to participate in self-directed training opportunities and assist with other behind-the-scenes tasks. Their performance will be evaluated periodically throughout the year.
- The scheduled work hours are: a combination of weekdays and weekends 4 to 6 hour shifts during the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm. Monday through Sunday. Gallery Interpreters are expected to work a regular schedule, including holidays (excludes Thanksgiving and Christmas Day when the Center is closed)
- 16 and older, work a minimum of 20 hours per pay period
- Gallery Interpreters are not eligible for full time benefits
- Gallery Interpreters may be required to work some weekends and evenings
- Pay rate is $7.50-$8.50 per hour DOE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Provides excellent customer service, group greetings, and general visitor information as they work in uniform in the building
- Actively seeks out and engages visitors in conversations, exploration and experimentation when in the galleries
- Learns new activities and exhibitions on a regular basis, as required
- Performs audience-appropriate demonstrations and presentations in the exhibition galleries for visitors
- Works independently in the galleries engaging visitors
- Follows a daily schedule, prepared by the Guest Experience Manager
- Works a regular schedule established between the Gallery Interpreter and Guest Experience Manager. Additional shifts may be temporarily added through mutual agreement
- Attends regular mandatory training sessions, held during regular work hours
- Complies with the ASC Guest Experience Department dress code
- Must have access to an email account and check it regularly (at least 4 times a week)

GUEST SERVICES ASSOCIATE - PART TIME
SUMMARY:
Guest Services are first to greet and interact with the guests, making their experience a positive one.
- Part-time, flexible work schedule, both weekday and weekend as needed
- Pay rate is $8.00 to $9.50/hour. DOE.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following
- Be able to work weekday or weekend basis as needed
- Be accurate and prompt in handling cash (including check and credit card)
- Ability to assist guests with questions regarding the Center including fees, programs, schedules, and activites.

Program Specialist
SUMMARY:
This is a temporary, 29-hour per week position through July 31, 2010 with the potential of continued employment based on company need. Rate: $10-$12 per hour DOE.
Working under the direction of the Program Manager, the Program Specialist is responsible for delivering occasional family science night programs statewide, facilitating private, family and Girl Scout/Brownie Camp-ins and other scout programs, and assisting with winter, spring and summer camps. The Specialist also assists with home school programs and serves as a back-up for Science on Wheels programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Facilitates camp-ins for a variety of audiences
- Manages camp-in budget
- Orders and assembles camp-in materials and equipment
- Assists with regular ASC camps
- Assists with Brownie and Girl Scout Saturday programs
- Assists with home school programs
- Delivers family science night programs as needed - occasionally outside the Valley
- Serves as back up for regular Science on Wheels outreach programs
DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Experience facilitating youth programs
- Experience in child-centered, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches

- Must be available evenings, weekends and overnight

Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager (1st and 2nd Floors)
SUMMARY:
The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager (1st and 2nd Floors) is responsible for developing new demonstrations, activities, and events to enrich the guest’s experience in the 1st and 2nd floor galleries of the Arizona Science Center. The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager is accountable for the successful integration of day to day operations; day to day scheduling; day to day reports; and all applicable content development. The Guest Experience Floor Team report to and work with the Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager to ensure an enjoyable consistent experience for the guest. The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager implements all major decisions regarding programming and staffing for the galleries with the guidance of the Senior Manager Guest Experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists the Senior Manager Guest Experience to create a strategic plan for the guest experience in the galleries.
- Assists in development of gallery staffing plans for daily operations as well as traveling exhibitions.
- Assists with the Senior Manager Guest Experience and the Director of Scientific Interpretation and the Communications Department on planning daily and special events occurring on the gallery floors.
- Assists with the Senior Manager Guest Experience and with other departments in creating a viable gallery staff and volunteer training program.
- Assists in the evaluation of the gallery teams’ performance and the Guest Experience for the 1st and 2nd Floors.
- Assists with the ongoing communication between Guest Experience Floor Team and other Departments regarding exhibits and activities occurring in the galleries.
- Assists with the management of budgets, schedules, facility integration, vendors and team members as relating to daily operations, touring exhibitions and special projects.
- Implements the development of new demonstrations, activities, and events for the gallery floor, working collaboratively with the Senior Manager Guest Experience, Director of Scientific Interpretation, and other ASC team members.
- Implements the regular on-going training of gallery staff and volunteers.
- Implements the daily maintenance of all gallery exhibits with input from Exhibit Technician.
- Directly supervises the gallery floor team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the Guest Experience floor team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, delegating and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and bringing major gallery decisions or issues to the Senior Manager Guest Experience.

Special Events & Stewardship Manager
SUMMARY:
The Special Events and Donor Stewardship Manager will coordinate and implement special events and donor stewardship programs that support the development efforts of Arizona Science Center. These include managing and coordinating the annual Galaxy Gala, Director’s Circle events, corporate sponsor events, select VIP exhibition openings, and other activities that help to recognize and engage donors. This person is responsible for detailed planning of the logistics and arrangements for events, working with outside vendors, and assisting in the preparation of invitations, solicitations, acknowledgements, correspondence/communications, and recognition. This position is full time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following
- Coordinate and implement all Development special events and stewardship events. Responsible for organization, volunteer communications and coordination, sponsorship packages, mailings, follow-up, and other special event functions.
- Plan and implement the Center’s donor recognition and stewardship program in consultation with Senior Director of Development, Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving, Director of Individual Giving and the Development Services Coordinator.
- Direct the fulfillment of hospitality and visibility benefits for donors, including onsite, online and printed donor recognition, gift acknowledgments, onsite tours, events, memberships and more.
- Assist with the design, development, implementation and maintenance of donor communications including newsletters, e-newsletters, campaign mailings, donor cultivation packages, reports and more.
- Work with Development Services Coordinator to develop format for donor recognition reports and to ensure accurate recordkeeping of contributions and associated benefits.
- Be able to work scheduled nights, evenings and weekends. Occasional travel a possibility.
- Experience in non-profit special events and fundraising including experience working with a Board of Directors, major gift donors, event committees and volunteers.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team with a range of people including, but not limited to Board of Directors, volunteers, and staff.
- Have knowledge of and ability to use the following computer applications: Raiser’s Edge database software system, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Have ability to use modern business communications, and to ensure conformance to ASC Style Guide of style and format of letters, memoranda, electronic email, telephone/fax, office systems and record keeping.
- Have ability to establish priorities, work independently, achieve objectives and meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Have excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytic, written, computer, and verbal communication skills is required. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality is required.
- Provide additional project support as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to work effectively with staff and high-level volunteers.
