Gallery interpreter - part time

SUMMARY: 

Gallery Interpreters represent the "public face of the Science Center." Gallery Interpreters work in the exhibition galleries greeting visitors and engaging them in educational activities, conversations, and programs. They are required to be receptive, outgoing and engaged with the public while they are in uniform in the exhibition galleries. Gallery Interpreters assist visitors as they use the exhibits, encourage visitors to experiment and explore, and provide answers to questions and explanations through interactive demonstrations. Gallery Interpreters will work in one of the center's galleries, present tabletop activities, and perform scheduled demonstrations or workshops. They will also have time during their shifts to participate in self-directed training opportunities and assist with other behind-the-scenes tasks. Their performance will be evaluated periodically throughout the year.

  • The scheduled work hours are: a combination of weekdays and weekends 4 to 6 hour shifts during the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm. Monday through Sunday. Gallery Interpreters are expected to work a regular schedule, including holidays (excludes Thanksgiving and Christmas Day when the Center is closed)
  • 16 and older, work a minimum of 20 hours per pay period
  • Gallery Interpreters are not eligible for full time benefits
  • Gallery Interpreters may be required to work some weekends and evenings
  • Pay rate is $7.50-$8.50 per hour DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides excellent customer service, group greetings, and general visitor information as they work in uniform in the building
  • Actively seeks out and engages visitors in conversations, exploration and experimentation when in the galleries
  • Learns new activities and exhibitions on a regular basis, as required
  • Performs audience-appropriate demonstrations and presentations in the exhibition galleries for visitors
  • Works independently in the galleries engaging visitors
  • Follows a daily schedule, prepared by the Guest Experience Manager
  • Works a regular schedule established between the Gallery Interpreter and Guest Experience Manager. Additional shifts may be temporarily added through mutual agreement
  • Attends regular mandatory training sessions, held during regular work hours
  • Complies with the ASC Guest Experience Department dress code
  • Must have access to an email account and check it regularly (at least 4 times a week)

Project manager - guest experience

 

SUMMARY: 

Arizona Science Center's project, Framing New Pathways to Medical Discovery, funded by the National Institutes of Health will introduce students aged 8-14 years, their teachers, families, underserved students and the general public to three biomedical research areas: biological pathways, bioinformatics, and nanomedicine. Over five years, the project will develop and present demonstrations, basic and intermediate level galley lab activities (for 2nd & 6th grade students or families); train museum staff and interns to present the programs; offer orientation workshops to teachers; develop a teacher's guide; conduct outreach in middle schools; engage scientists to talk about their work and help them communicate with the public; create a manual of materials and activities for other science centers. The evaluation plan includes formative research on activities and assessment of how well repair metaphors facilitate understanding of clinical issues. A Design Team of scientists, museum staff, science teachers, biology and medical students will guide the development of education components.

The Pathways Project Manager will oversee project direction and development and oversee the day-to-day operations of the grant work. This person will supervise a Design Team and part time Administrative Assistant; oversee sub-awards and contracts, and maintain project records. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Insure project activities are carried out in a timely manner that meets the project'd educational goals and standards
  • Daily management or and reporting to the Project budget
  • Coordinate with partner institutions: Barrow Neurological Institute, ASU College of Liberal Arts and Science, Plymouth Research
  • Organize and conducting Design Team meetings
  • Meet the Gallery staff and Educational Services staff who will conduct the labs, demonstrations, outreach, teacher orientations, and scientist presentations
  • Oversee the work of the Curriculum Specialist; identify other resource people and recruiting them as needed
  • Select equipment and materials
  • Manage billing and invoicing; financial records and reporting as well as other project records
  • Oversee scheduling of programs and training schedules
  • Interface with district and tribal administrators as needed
  • Assist the Evaluator to organize evaluation sessions with school groups and others
  • Build the program for sustainability through staff development, networking, conferences, and promotion

The position reports to the Director of Science Interpretation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Project Manager will supervise a part time Adminstrative Assistant, a Curriculum Specialist, and Arizona Science Center team members working on the project plus other resource people as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

COMPENSATION: 

  • Full time position with benefits (eligible on the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period) for the duration of the project (55 months)
  • Salary $45,000 per year

SUMMARY: 

The Program Interpreter handles the day-to-day activities of the Guest Experience Department's team members and volunteers. The Program Interpreter is responsible for the successful integration of adult and adolescent floor staff into the fabric of Center operations. The Program Interpreter spends most of their time on the exhibit floor, working with staff and public and interacting with guests, teachers, and their classes. The Program Interpreter represents the "public face of the Science Center" at all times. Program Interpreters are required to be receptive, outgoing, and engaged with the public while they are in uniform in the exhibition galleries. The Program Interpreter assists guests as they engage exhibits, encourage guests to experiment and explore, and provide answers to questions and explanations through interactive demonstrations.

Guest Services are first to greet and interact with the guests, making their experience a positive one.

  • Part-time, flexible work schedule, both weekday and weekend as needed

Guest experience floor manager (1st & 2nd floors)

SUMMARY: 

The Guest Experience Manager (1st & 2nd floors) is responsible for all exhibits, content and special projects in the 1st and 2nd floor galleries of Arizona Science Center. The Guest Experience Floor Manager is accountable for the successful integration of daily and special events in the galleries; training staff and volunteers to perform various demonstrations and activities; evaluating gallery staff performance and programs; and developing new demonstrations, activites, and events to enrigh the guest's experience. The Guest Experience Assistant Manager and Floor Team report to and work with the Guest Experience Floor Manager to ensure an enjoyable consistent experience for the guest. The Guest Experience Floor Manager makes all major decisions regarding programming and staffing for the galleries with the guidance of the Senior Director of Guest Experience. The Guest Experience Floor Manager also acts as a Project Manager for all special projects and touring exhibitions for the galleries he/she is responsible for.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with ASC team to create a strategic plan for the guest experience in the galleries
  • Develop gallery staffings plans for daily operations as well as traveling exhibitions
  • Works with the Director of Scientific Interpretation and the Communications Department on planning daily and special events occuring on the gallery floors
  • Works with other departments creating a viable gallery staff and volunteer training program for the Guest Experience Department
  • Oversees the regular on-going training of gallery staff and gallery volunteers
  • Evaluates gallery team performance and the Guest Experience for 1st and 2nd floors
  • Facilitates ongoing communication between Guest Experience Floor Team and other Departments regarding exhibits and activities occuring in the galleries
  • Oversees the development of new demonstrations, activities, and events for the gallery floor, working collaboratively with the Director of Scientific Interpretation, the Senior Director of Guest Experience and other ASC team members
  • Directly supervises Guest Experience Assistant Manager and, as needed, the gallery floor team and handles any major disciplinary issues arising with gallery team
  • Manages budgets, schedules, facility integration, vendors and team members as relating to daily operations, touring exhibitions and special projects
