Guest experience - Assistant Floor manager

SUMMARY: 

The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager (3rd & 4th Floors) is responsible for developing new demonstrations, activites and events to enrich the guest's experience in the 3rd & 4th floor galleries of the Arizona Science Center. The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager is accountable for the successful integration of day to day operations; day to day scheduling; day to day reports; and all applicable content development. The Guest Experience Floor Team report to and work with the Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager to ensure an enjoyable consistent experience for the guest. The Guest Experience Assistant Floor Manager implements all major decisions regarding programming and staffing for the galleries with the guidance of the Guest Experience Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists the Guest Experience Manager to create a strategic plan for the guest experience in the galleries.
  • Assists in the development of gallery staffing plans for daily operations as well as traveling exhibitions.
  • Assists with the Guest Experience Manager and the Director of Scientific Interpretation and the Communications Department on planning daily and special events occuring on the gallery floors.
  • Assists with the Guest Experience Manager and with other departments in creating a viable gallery staff and volunteer training program.
  • Assists in the evaluation of gallery teams' performance and the Guest Experience for the 3rd & 4th floors.
  • Assists with the ongoing communication between Guest Experience Floor Team and other Departments regarding exhibits and activities occuring in the galleries.
  • Assists with the management of budgets, schedules, facility integration, vendor and team members as relating to daily operations, touring exhibitions and special projects.
  • Implements the development of new demonstrations, activities, and events for the gallery floor, working collaboratively with the Guest Experience Manager, Director of Scientific Interpretation, and other ASC team members.
  • Implements the regular on-going training of gallery staff and volunteers.
  • Implements the daily maintenance of all gallery exhibits with input from Exhibit Technician.
  • Directly supervises the gallery floor team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Supervises the Guest Experience floor team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, delegating and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and bringing major gallery decisions or issues to the Guest Experience Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent training and four years related management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong science background preferred.

Senior director of development

SUMMARY: 

The Senior Director of Development serves as a key member of the Center's Senior Management Team and reports to the President and CEO. The Senior Director supervises a department of four staff and is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the Center's fundraising operations. The Center's annual contributed revenue of approximately $2 million is comprised of contributions from individuals, the Board of Trustee campaign, and corporate, foundation, government, and planned giving opportunities. In addition, the department oversees the annual fundraising Gala and other fundraising and stewardship events. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Plan, implement, and manage all the fund development activities for the Center, including the annual fund, special events, sponsorships, major gifts, planned giving, and any special campaigns or initiatives.
  • With the President and CEO, develop overall and detailed strategies for all fundraising efforts. Establish the goals and objective for the Center's fundraising efforts. Develop and maintain systems for evaluating and reporting on the impact and effectiveness of fundraising activities tied to those goals and objectives.
  • Manage the coordination of the fundraising activities of Trustees, President and CEO, volunteers and staff. Serve as staff office to the Board of Trustees and other fundraising committees. Oversee the recruitment, training, and productive utilization of volunteer fundraisers. In particular, provide support to the Board of Trustee Development Committee and the Gala Committee, as well as the Trustee Nominating Committee.
  • Work with fundraising staff to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit individual, corporate, and foundation donors, prospective donors, and other constituencies interested in and affected by the Center's activities. Coordinate government funding opportunities with other staff, most notably the Senior Director of Guest Experience and the Senior Director of Finance.
  • Manage own portfolio of select major gift prospects and donors.
  • Serve as an active member of the Senior Management Team in establishing, managing, and evaluating the plans, goals, and objectives for the entire Center operation.
  • Maintain close communication with Senior Director of Communication and membership management staff to ensure compatibility of fundraising and membership solicitation and stewardship activities and data management.
  • Participate in the development of marketing, communication, and promotional plans for the Center so as to develop a strong public image of the Center's needs for philanthropic support. Oversee the creation of communications tools designed specifically for fundraising.
  • Actively support all aspects of the fundraising operation and infrastructure, including the donor management information system, to ensure all prospects and donors are effectively tracked.
  • Prepare and proof correspondence, materials, and proposals to support the Center's fundraising efforts, as well as all materials related to donor and sponsor recognition and acknowledgement.
  • Prepare and administer budgets for the fundraising department.
  • Represent the Center to various community and related organizations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION: 

  • Bachelor's Degree of equivalent and 10 years or more experience in a senior fund raising position with strong knowledge of fundraising operations, infrastructure, and policies and procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing and growing a comprehensive, multi-faceted fundraising operation.
  • Responsibility for managing own portfolio of major gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Track record of consistently meeting annual fundraising goals of $2 million or more.
  • Responsibility for managing and mentoring a staff, including all areas of development (annual fund, events, major gifts, corporate, membership, grants, planned giving).
  • Experience developing strategic plans and implementing programs and systems.
  • Experience developing and managing a division budget.
  • Service in a senior development position at one or more science center or related cultural institutions.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or comparable sophisticated fundraising software.

SUMMARY: 

Arizona Science Center (ASC) will develop after school programs and summer camp programs for schools, with funding from the Arizona Department of Education's 21st Century Community Learning Center funds. We will be organizing, recruiting and training eight instructors to deliver informal experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to 16 school district sites statewide, coordinating closely with the districts and the ADE. Programs include after school clubs, summer camps and family science nights.

The Project Manager will supervise a Lead Instructor, support staff as required, and instructors who are hired and trained to deliver the programs at school sites. The program is expected to be renewed and expanded in coming years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Recruit, screen and retain project staff
  • Visit and coordinate program sites; travel to sites to monitor instructional progress
  • Supervise ASC project staff; monitor staff performance
  • Oversee scheduling of programs and training schedules
  • Manage curriculum supplies process
  • Manage billing and invoicing; financial records and reporting
  • Coordinate STEM program evaluation process
  • Interface with ADE, district and tribal administrators
  • Build the program for sustainability through networking, conferences, promotion, creating a financial model, negotiating further agreements with ADE

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • B.A. or higher in education, science education, or organizational management
  • Experience with educational project development
  • 2 years experience setting up new programs
  • 2 years experience with informal STEM programs
  • Experience in innovative community-based programs

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Electronic and computer skills: facility and experience with educational software and hardware, Internet fluency
  • Facility and experience in child-centered, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches
  • Familiarity with best practices in science teaching and Arizona state standards
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Possess a professional demeanor

COMPENSATION: 

  • Temporary, full time position with benefits for 8 months with the potential of continued employment based on funding
  • Salary $40,000 per year (prorated)
