- The mission of the Center is to inspire, educate and entertain people of all ages about science.

Popcorn pops because water is stored in a small circle of soft starch in each kernel. As the kernel is heated, the water heats, the droplet of moisture turns to steam and the steam builds up pressure until the kernel finally explodes to many times its original volume.

Entering the Center

Thanks to a voter-approved, city of Phoenix 2006 bond, Arizona Science Center has begun construction that will address much-needed lobby improvement and simply making it easier to enter the building!

During this first phase of lobby construction, you can expect to be directed to temporary entrances and exits for school groups, wheelchairs/strollers and the general public. We have special fencing and signage leading from the parking garage to our temporary entrances to ensure easy access.

Starting June 26, the temporary entrance to Arizona Science Center will be located off 5th Street (simply follow the green arrows and signs from the parking garage).  At the 5th Street door, you will be directed to our temporary lobby on Level 3.

Arizona Science Center, Awesome Atom's science store and Fabulous Food cafe will remain open during construction, 7 days a week!
